The Rise of the Strategist

More and more of my work these days is moving from isolationist IT strategy development to fully integrated approaches to business and IT strategies combined. The notion that IT is premier is certainly gone; it has been replaced by the realization that business is enhanced, nay fully realized, only with a well-aligned IT infrastructure.

The significant complexity and rigidity of most supporting IT infrastructures today are hurting businesses. Companies are realizing the time has come for change, but change supported by a well thought out enterprise strategy.

In my work, the strategy consists of an interlinked business goal plane, a business service execution plane and the supporting IT plane. The usage of the 3 plane architecture assists in describing to the executives their goals and how they are realized by their externally visible business services supported by their internal corporate services.
